Easter Week

I entered a dollar store the other day and the smell of milk chocolate had my olfactory nerves just quivering. I love chocolate. What an amazing marketing ploy. Fill a store so full of chocolate bunnies and other chocolate goodies that the store actually smells like chocolate.

But what ever does chocolate have to do with Easter? It’s almost like two different celebrations. Why couldn’t we have a chocolate week or month? Manufacturers could concentrate all of their advertising and efforts into selling chocolates in the shapes of all sorts of endearing creatures and there wouldn’t be any guilt involved in shamelessly filling your cart.

Commemoration of Christ’s death could be separated from this celebration of spring and chocolate.

I like to think that all over the world there are people who take a faith-based approach to Easter. They get out their Bible story books and read the story of Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem. They also read of the different notable events that happened during that last week of Jesus life. They read soberly of the terrible things that happened on Good Friday and then with joy, celebrate our risen Lord on Easter Sunday.

They listen to the old sacred hymns that were written just for Easter.

They have the true plan of salvation in their hearts, no chocolate bunnies or eggs involved.
